Increasing soil carbon levels and plant production across agricultural land offers the opportunity of establishing a carbon sequestration program to offset farming emissions under any future regulations, or for sale on the carbon emissions market.

We remain committed to investigating the potential of carbon sequestration as a result of the use of our products. We are collaborating with leading industry providers, including Green Collar and AgriProve, with the aim of creating farm income diversity from the sale of Australian carbon credit units.

Benefits of Soil Sequestration of Carbon

Removing CO2 from the atmosphere is only one significant benefit of enhanced carbon storage in soils. Improved soil and water quality, decreased nutrient loss, reduced soil erosion, increased water conservation and greater crop production may result from increasing the amount of carbon stored in agricultural soils.

The Emissions Reduction Fund

The Emissions Reduction Fund was created to provide incentives for Australian businesses, farmers, landholders and others to adopt new practices and technologies to reduce Australia’s greenhouse gas emissions.

Activities supported through the Fund provide important environmental, economic, social and cultural benefits for farmers, businesses, landholders, Indigenous Australians and others. The Fund is established on the principles of reducing emissions at lowest cost, purchasing genuine emissions reductions and streamlining administration, making it easy for businesses to participate.

The Emissions Reduction Fund is a voluntary scheme that aims to reduce Australia’s greenhouse gas emissions by providing incentives for a range of organisations and individuals to adopt new practices and technologies to reduce their emissions.

Emissions Reduction Fund projects must be conducted according to an approved method. A number of activities are eligible under the scheme and individuals and organisations taking part may be able to earn Australian carbon credit units (ACCUs). One ACCU is earned for each tonne of carbon dioxide equivalent (tCO2-e) stored or avoided by a project. ACCUs may be sold to generate additional income, either to the Government through a Carbon Abatement Contract or on the secondary market.

Emissions reduction methods set out the rules for estimating emissions reductions from different activities. These methods ensure that emissions reductions are genuine – that they are both real and additional to business as usual operations.
